2022, LESTER

Lester is woven work dedicated to my mother and godmother in memory of their brother who passed at the age of 21. In the universal experience of families cooking together, sharing a meal and storytelling, the story of Lester was told whilst peeling onions in preparation of biryani, a traditional Indian dish. The onion skins were then collected and a dye bath was created in which the wool for this work was immersed and dyed. Through this process, the work hopes to infuse story, memory and tradition and give form to the silence and trauma that surrounded his death.
